I'm very excited for my society, the altsoc. I've managed to nick premises for a night from another promoter(29th jan). I should be feeling the pressure, but with the ideas I have at the moment, that's quite hard. The night is called sexydisco: and to back that up im dressing the place up like it was meeting its grandmother. I'm thinking glittery balloons and vanilla scent. The music will not be bullshit, which nearly every club in brum finds hard to guarantee.
The picture above is a Smiths album cover: the man on it featured in Flesh, the Andy Warhol film that I will be projecting on one of the walls at the party. Another projector will be on the other side of the room, showing Eat and Kiss, two other Warhol fantasies. Add to that some gentle strobe lighting and it will kinda resemble the light shows of 66'.
I need to find two bands though, I know a few - but I've been leaning toward booking a singer instead... I think the setting could really propel a soulful performance. If theres any worry, it's that the society won't embrace it enough - which is why I'm inviting art students from a neighboring university who would really appreciate the ideas.
Anyways, I'll keep this post updated, and start getting pictures up of the setup.
